On June 1, 2015 supporters held demonstrations at Mexican consulates in cities across the United States in an effort to raise awareness of Nestora Salgado’s imprisonment. Photos and details about the events in San Diego, Seattle, San Francisco, New York City, and Chicago follow.

San Diego

Activists Turn Demand Letter to the Mexican Consul in San Diego

Activists from multiple community groups are outside the Mexican Consulate on India Street in downtown San Diego. Three of them are on a full hunger strike, while the rest are joining them in peacefully occupying the street.

Their demand is simple. They want Nestora Salgado, a naturalized United State Citizen to be freed from Mexican jails where she has been since 2013.

Salgado started her hunger strike on May 5th of this year, demanding freedom from the high security federal prison in Nayarit. Due to pressure, and her hunger strike, she has been transferred to the lower security prison in Tepepan, in Mexico City. There, she is getting medical attention, though activists want a neutral doctor to confirm this. She is also starting to drink liquids.

San Francisco

Members of the Freedom Socialist Party, Radical Women, Socialist Viewpoint, and Yo Soy 132 held a spirited rally for Nestora at the San Francisco Mexican Consulate from 11:00 AM to noon.

Ante tanta violacion a los sus Derechos Individuales y Humanos, y tomando en consideracion la ilegalidad con el procedimiento visto desde un principio, NO descansaremos hasta verla libre y con nosotros sirviendonos de ejemplo e inspiracion.
