On Wednesday, March 11, the Freedom Socialist Party’s Stephan Durham issued a letter regarding the murder of Revolutionary Popular Front (FDR) leader Gustavo Salgado Delgado. The text of the letter follows, in English and Spanish.

Comrades of the Central Committee, Revolutionary Popular Front,

The Freedom Socialist Party (FSP), U.S. Section sends our deepest regrets for the Feb. 3 brutal torture and murder of Revolutionary Popular Front (FDR) leader Gustavo Salgado Delgado. We stand with you in demanding a full and impartial investigation into his assassination, including the government harassment in the time leading up to his disappearance.

We hold the governor of the state of Morelos, as well as the federal government, responsible for Gustavo’s death. President Peña Nieto, like his predecessors, has allowed hundreds of similar individual and mass killings to go on without serious investigation or punishment.

Gustavo was an active participant in the social movements in Morelos and in the effort to bring justice for the 43 murdered students from Ayotzinapa and their families. His assassination, and the more recent police slaying of a 65-year- old retired teacher protesting the same issue at a demonstration in Acapulco, Guerrero, is an attempt to intimidate others like them from carrying on this important work.

These acts of state terrorism only strengthen the Freedom Socialist Party’s resolve to expose and denounce the continued U.S. military funding which is helping to bankroll Peña Nieto’s regime, while President Obama turns a blind eye to these egregious human rights abuses. The FSP has been organizing for the freedom of Nestora Salgado and other CRAC leaders and publicizing the campaign for justice for Ayotzinapa here in the U.S. and we understand that it is only through international solidarity that we will win justice for those freedom fighters who have fallen or who remain in prison.

El Partido de Libertad Socialista (Freedom Socialist Party, FSP), Sección del los EEUU, manda nuestro profundo pesar por la tortura brutal y asesinato el 3 de febrero del líder del Frente Popular Revolucionario (FPR) Gustavo Salgado Delgado. Estamos con ustedes para exigir una investigación imparcial y completa del asesinato, y que incluya el hostigamiento por representantes del estado en los días antes de su desaparición.

Responsabilizamos al gobernador del estado de Morelos, tanto como al gobierno federal, de la muerte de Gustavo. El Presidente Peña Nieto, como sus predecesores, ha permitido centenares de asesinatos y matanzas parecidos sin hacer investigaciones reales y sin castigar a nadie.

Gustavo era un participante activo en los movimientos sociales en Morelos, también en los esfuerzos de ganar justicia para los 43 estudiantes asesinados de Ayotzinapa y sus familiares. El asesinato de él, y la muerte a manos de la policía de un maestro jubilado de 65 años, protestando en Acapulco por la misma causa, son intentos de intimidar a otras personas para que no persigan esta campaña importante.

Estos actos de terrorismo del estado son para nosotros/as del Freedom Socialist Party razones para ponernos aún más resuelto a poner a descubierto y a denunciar los fondos militares que entrega el gobierno estadounidense para financiar el régimen de Peña Nieto, mientras Obama cierra los ojos a estos abusos atroces de los derechos humanos. El FSP está organizando para la libertad para Nestora Salgado y para los otros líderes del CRAC, y también damos a conocer la campaña para la justicia para Ayotzinapa aquí en los EEUU. Entendemos que la justicia para los luchadores por la libertad fallecidos y encarcelados solamente se gana por la solidaridad internacional.
